Scholarship Program 1
The KAAD Scholarships for developing countries offers international students from developing countries who have professional experience the opportunity to study in a state or state-recognized German higher institution choosing from a large variety of study options.
Scholarship Program 2
This category is only administered by the Catholic Chaplaincies of all German universities to international students who are already admitted into a German university.
Program for Eastern Europe
This category is mainly focused on shorter programs of study in Germany. The prospective candidate should reside in their home countries at the of applying for the KAAD scholarship.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To be eligible for the KAAD Scholarships, the prospective candidate must:
Scholarship Program 1
- Come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, Middle East, or Latin America and are currently residing in their home country.
- Have a university degree.
- Have a professional experience from their home country.
- Be willing to acquire a master’s or PhD at a German higher institution or do a post-doctorial research at a German higher institution.
- Be a Catholic or a Christian by denomination. Prospective applicants from other religious backgrounds can apply per recommendations by Catholic partners.
- Have knowledge in German language of which KAAD can offer maximum of six (6) months course in Germany.
Scholarship Program 2
- Come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, Middle East, or Latin America.
- Be already studying in a German university and still studying for at least ten (10) months.
- Be willing to acquire a master’s or PhD at a German higher institution. Prospective candidates for master’s programs may present their documents within the final semester of their bachelor’s programs.
- Be a Catholic or a Christian by denomination. Prospective applicants from other religious backgrounds can apply per recommendations by Catholic partners.
- Have knowledge of the German language (at least general communication level).
Program for Eastern Europe
- Come from Middle East, Southeast-Europe, from a Caucasian Country or Central Asia.
- Be a Catholic or a Christian by denomination. Prospective applicants from other religious backgrounds can apply per recommendations by Catholic partners.
- Have good knowledge in German language.

Deadline
