Study Abroad Timeline 2027: When to Apply for Each Intake from Pakistan

Work backwards from the intake, not forwards from today. A month-by-month plan for September 2027 and the deadlines for every major destination.

Most last-minute panic comes from planning forwards from today rather than backwards from the intake. Every stage depends on the one before it: no offer means no CAS or I-20, no CAS means no visa, and the visa is the one stage with a queue you cannot control.

Below are the intakes for the main destinations and a month-by-month plan for the September 2027 intake, written for students starting in November 2026.

Intakes by country

Country Main intake Other intakes Typical application window
United Kingdom September January, some May UCAS by 13 January 2027 for September undergraduate; postgraduate on a rolling basis
United States Fall (August or September) Spring (January) Fall deadlines mostly December to February; funding deadlines are often earlier
Canada September January and May Roughly 8 to 12 months ahead; popular programmes close early
Australia February July Around 6 to 8 months ahead to leave time for the CoE and visa
Germany Winter semester (October) Summer semester (April) Winter usually by 15 July, summer by 15 January; earlier through uni-assist
Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain September or October Some February Spring to early summer; scholarships much earlier

Month-by-month plan for September 2027

When What to do
November to December 2026 Decide on country, level and budget. Shortlist 5 to 8 universities. Start HEC degree attestation and IBCC equivalence. Book an English test if your universities need one.
December 2026 to January 2027 Submit applications. UK undergraduates: UCAS by 13 January 2027. US applicants: most fall deadlines fall in this window. Hungary’s Stipendium Hungaricum usually closes in mid-January.
February to April 2027 Receive offers, compare them and accept one. Apply for university scholarships. Prepare for credibility interviews.
April to June 2027 Meet your offer conditions and pay deposits. Move visa funds into the right account early so the 28-day (UK) or six-month (Canada) history is clean. Book the TB test (UK) or medical (Canada, Australia).
June to August 2027 Receive your CAS, I-20, CoE or acceptance letter. Apply for the visa as soon as you can. Book accommodation.
August to September 2027 Collect your visa or eVisa, book flights, arrange insurance and arrive in time for induction.

Is it too late for January 2027?

For the UK, January 2027 is still possible for many master’s courses if you apply now and your documents are ready. You will need an offer, a deposit, funds held for 28 days and a CAS before you can apply for the visa, and recent intakes have shown that UK visas for Pakistani applicants can take longer than the usual three weeks.

If you are reading this with less than three months to the start date and no offer yet, the next intake is usually the better decision. A deferred offer costs nothing; a refused visa stays on your record.

Country-specific timing points

  • UK: you can apply for the visa up to six months before your course starts. Oxford, Cambridge, medicine and dentistry close on 15 October of the previous year. More in our UK study guide.
  • USA: the F-1 visa can be issued up to 365 days before your programme starts, but you can enter only 30 days before. See our F-1 visa guide.
  • Canada: allow time for the provincial attestation letter, which most non-graduate students need. See our Canada study permit guide.
  • Australia: processing speed depends on how full your university’s allocation is. See our Australia visa guide.
  • Germany: blocked accounts and embassy appointments take time. Start at least nine months before the semester.

The documents to start now

  • A passport valid for the whole course plus six months.
  • HEC-attested degree and transcripts, and IBCC equivalence for O and A levels.
  • Two academic or professional references.
  • A personal statement or statement of purpose, drafted early and revised.
  • A CV, especially for master’s applicants with work experience.
  • Financial documents showing where your funds come from, built up over months rather than weeks.

Frequently asked questions

When should I apply for the September 2027 intake?

Ideally between November 2026 and January 2027. UK undergraduate applications should reach UCAS by 13 January 2027, and most US fall deadlines fall between December and February.

Can I still apply for the UK January 2027 intake?

Often yes for master’s courses, if your documents and funds are ready now. Visa processing can take longer than three weeks, so leave as much margin as you can.

How early can I apply for a UK student visa?

Up to six months before your course starts, once you have your CAS and your funds have been held for 28 days.

What are the intakes in Australia?

February is the main intake and July the second. Some institutions also offer smaller intakes later in the year.
